7102dl Cant connect to mail server on local network

I have a hp 7102dl routers i can connect to my mail server from an external ip but cannot connect to the domain name from the local network. Any Help would be great thanks

Without any additional information, there is one scenario that I can imagine. If you are using Dynamic DNS and NAT and your mail server is using a private IP address on your local LAN, then local clients would attempt to access your mail server using the Dynamic DNS IP address, your public IP address. But a router will not NAT that traffic. You would need to setup a DNS server inside your network for your domain that all internal devices use that associates your mail server with its internal private IP address.

 

We would need a lot more information to begin to help.

Yeah that sounds spot on like you described mailserver is on a private ip address and has the needed ports forwarded. i was hope there was a way to direct the traffic back with some sort of loopback.
