Aruba 3810M Switch - Issues Connecting to ESXI 6.5 hosts

Hi All,

Having some issues with this config, not sure if its switch related or the ESXI config.

We have 2 x Aruba 3810M Switches Stacked

I have added VLAN 300 and this will be used for SAN traffic between ESXI and a SAN.

Ports 1/9 - 2/9 are in a Trunk (Trk6) Plugged into ESXI HOST

Ports 1/10 - 2/10 are in a Trunk (Trk7)  Plugged into ESXI HOST

Ports 1/11 - 2/11 are in a Trunk (Trk4)  Plugged into SAN

Ports 1/12 - 2/12 are in a Trunk (Trk5)  Plugged into SAN

I have also added an IP address to VLAN 300, the VLAN 300 config is as follows.

I have also given VLAN 300 an IP address so I can ping from the SAN / ESXI to test.

VLAN 300 Config

  •   vlan 300
    •   name "SAN"
    •   untagged Trk4-Trk7
    •   ip address 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0
    •   jumbo
    •   exit

The SANS can ping 172.16.1.1 and the Switch can ping the SANS (SAN IPS 172.16.1.2 & 172.16.1.3)

But the ESXI Hosts which are plugged into ports 9 & 10 on both switches cannot ping the switch OR the SANS OR Eachother. the ESXI VMK IP address is on the same IP range on VLAN 300.

So basically, the SANS are sucessfully on VLAN 300

But the ESXI Hosts (running esxi 6.5) should be on VLAN 300 but dont appear to be.

And i need the ESXI hosts ot be able to communicate directly to the SANS to mount datastores.

The ESXI Management IP is on a seperate range that is routed by the core, VLAN 300 is within the 3810M Switches.

Any assistance would help as I have spent hours trying to get this thing working.

      Adam

Please share Trunk (Group of ports aggregated together) configurations on Aruba 3810M backplane stack side (show trunk, show lacp, show running config) and at vSphere vDS/vSS side.

Hi There,

Turns out the issue was on the ESXI side - sorted now, thanks.

I’m glad you got that sorted out (I suspect the issue was on vSS/vDS balancing method...AFAIK vSphere vSS doesn't support LACP, LACP is supported only when vDS is used).
