Enabling IGMP
Hi,
Looking to enable IGMP as part of troubleshooting some phones issues we're having, had a look around but wanting to confirm best process. Network lay-out is as below, Fortigate being the router which connects to ARuba 2930F, 3x HP 1950's connected to Aruba and 5x HP 1920's. All traffic is across VLAN 1,
Do I need to set a quierier and if so would that be on the Fortigate or best on Aruba?
Fortigate 200E --> Aruba 2930F
Aruba 2930f connects to: below switches
HPE Office connect 1950 3x
HPE Office Connect 1920S 5x

Re: Enabling IGMP
Hello!
The best practice is to have an IGMP querier enabled on the L3 interface, so I suggest you to enable it on the Fortigate. All downstream switches (connected to this VLAN 1 after the Fortigate) should have IGMP snooping enabled in order to keep multicast controlled and spread only out of ports that need it. Pay attention what IGMP version you use, it is important as it should be the same as the version of IGMP snooping on all switches connnected to it. None of downstream switches should have IGMP snooping querier enabled, it will be redundant as the router is already querier in this network.
Hope it helps!
