OSPF - redistribute Connected vs router ospf area OSPF-AREA-ID range IP-ADDR/MASK-LENGTH

Hi,

Coming from a CISCO world the configuration of OSPF is very different on HP ProCurve...

It appears most places seem to say that for all VLAN's on a device they need to be assigned to an OSPF area, then to actually get these to propogate to other switches you need to use the redistribute connected command on the OSPF process?

I was wondering therefore what the other command I have listed does instead of doing it like this?

What I do is this:

Say you have vlan 200:

conf t

vlan 200 ip ospf area 0 (backbone)

vlan 200 ip ospf passive

I do not use redistributed connected, I just use passive for terminating networks on OSPF.
