VRRP VMWare

VRRP VMWare

We have two 3810's running VRRP acting as the first hop routers for three 2920 access layer 2 switches.

Would it be possible to extend the VRRP service to two new ESXi 6 servers running VMWare, upon which is configured a virtual switch that supports 3 VLAN's. Each ESXi physical server has two NIC ports for connection to the virtual switch and uplinks to the 3810's, plus two others for SAN connectivity.

Thanks

Re: VRRP VMWare

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're planning, but here's the first approach that springs to my mind:

Create a new subnet on the 3800s with a new VLAN, and enable VRRP on that VLAN on both switches.
Patch the new servers into ports that are in the new VLAN and give the NICs IP addresses in the new subnet.
Configure routing on the 3800s and the vSwitch so that each side knows how to reach distant subnets via each other.

Re: VRRP VMWare

The NIC connections to the virtual switches are layer 2, so not able to give an IP address.
