multicast routing hp procurve 5406
Hello
i want to enable multicast routing in our lan, we have a lot of vlan's.
the command that i did is: "ip multicast-routing"
i saw articales in the web with command like igmp and ip pim
do i realy need those commands? or "ip multicast-routing" is enough?
someone told me that is a list of command that i need to run to get multicast routing, i searc the internet and i didnt find other commands except "ip pim" and "igmp".
thanks you very much!

Re: multicast routing hp procurve 5406
Howdy,
Have a look at the "Multicast & Routing guide", here's one -
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/3500-5400-6200-MRG-0207-K_12_XX-Book.pdf
You will at least need "ip igmp" under the VLANs that you want to enable multicast routing between. Just enable it where you *need* it.
Also remember that multicast traffic is not stateful so doesn't work at all well with firewalls - I forgot that and wasted 2 hours trying to fix it !!

Re: multicast routing hp procurve 5406
Thank you
what you think on this example?
layer3switch: ip multicast-routing
layer3switch: router pim
layer3switch: enable
vlan10: ip igmp
vlan10: ip pim-dense
vlan10: ip-addr any
What you mean doesn't work with firewall? i have firewall connected to my LAYER3 switch but i'm not enable the multicast on the firewall vlan, i enable it just on specific vlan,
and last question, if i enableing multicast, it can flooding my network? i know that pim-dense is every 3 minutes send traffic to check for clients.
Thanks!
