"Destination net unreachable" when pinging to another vlan

Hello HP Community,

I had one question about a ping reply message :

Basically, I have two vlans defined in a 5406zl let's say :

- VLAN 1 *** 1.1.1.0/24

- VLAN 2 *** 2.2.2.0/24

My question is why from a PC station in the VLAN 1, when trying to ping an non-existing IP in the VLAN2 range we get "Destination net unreachable" message instead of host unreachable, request time out or equivalent ?

For example :

Pinging 2.2.2.100 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 1.1.1.1: Destination net unreachable (1.1.1.1 is the VLAN 1 default GW)

Reply from 1.1.1.1: Destination net unreachable.

Reply from 1.1.1.1: Destination net unreachable.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance !

Karim

Re: "Destination net unreachable" when pinging to another vlan

OK I got it =>

It was due to a software BUG fixed from the K.14.63 =>

Release K.14.63

The following problems were resolved in software version K.14.63.

Routing (PR_0000052349)— When a destination host does not respond, the switch sends the wrong ICMP message (network unreachable instead of host unreachable).
