I have a volume group (vg04) with a 72gb disk and would like to know if I can use vgmodify in order to add 146gb disk to the (vg04) and then mirror from the 72gb to the 146gb, can this be done? If so, what would be the value of the max_pe in the command
"vgmodify -v -r -o -e ##### n /dev/vg04"?
I have hpux 11.23 and I know that I would need to install patches PHCO_35524 and PHKL_36244 in order to have vgmodify.
vg04 is currently like this:
logical volumes 1
physical volumes 1
physicall active vol 1
extent size (MB 4
MB of Alloc 69996
physical free 0
space total 69996
Looking for good answers and I'm a generous assigning points.

Re: Can vgmodify be used in order to add bigger disk to VG?
My understanding is that is a 11.31 only feature.
There may have been a patch since I last waded through the documentation, but that's what I remember.

Re: Can vgmodify be used in order to add bigger disk to VG?
The vgmodify command has been available for just this sort of purpose since 11.11 (an undocumented add-on download, if you could find it) and I believe the patches you referenced will enable it in 11.23.

Re: Can vgmodify be used in order to add bigger disk to VG?
So if I set the max_pe_extents to 65535 this means that I could later add bigger disk to vg04? example 250gb ?
extent size max_pe
4(mb) x 65535 = 262140 mb
aprox 255gb drives

Re: Can vgmodify be used in order to add bigger disk to VG?
review the results of vgmodify with -r option and apply after verifying it.
#vgmodify -v -r -e 65535 vg04
then
#vgmodify -v -e 65535 vg04
check the possible values using -t.

Solution1) I have a volume group (vg04) with a
72gb disk and would like to know if I can use vgmodify in order to add
146gb disk to the (vg04) and then mirror from the 72gb to the 146gb, can this be done?
==>Yes
2) If so, what would be the value of the max_pe in the command
"vgmodify -v -r -o -e ##### n /dev/vg04"?
==>
PV Size -- 146GB
PE Size -- 4 MB
Max PE/PV -- PV Size / PE Size
-- 146GB / 4 MB
-- 37376
3) I have hpux 11.23 and I know that I would need to install patches PHCO_35524 and PHKL_36244 in order to have vgmodify.
vg04 is currently like this:
logical volumes 1
physical volumes 1
physicall active vol 1
extent size (MB 4
MB of Alloc 69996
physical free 0
space total 69996
==>Yes, you are correct. You need to install patches for enabling vgmodify command.
4)So if I set the max_pe_extents to 65535 this means that I could later add bigger disk to vg04? example 250gb ?
extent size max_pe
4(mb) x 65535 = 262140 mb
aprox 255gb drives
==>Max. size of PV,with the following parameters,
PE Size = 4MB
Max PE/PV = 65535
Max PV Size = PE Size x Max PE/PV
= 4MB x 65535
= 255GB

Re: Can vgmodify be used in order to add bigger disk to VG?
you have to install LVM commands patch PHCO_38717 (latest one)
along with its dependencies PHKL_31500 and PHKL_32095 to enable vgmodify command.
I would suggest you to run the command in preview mode 1st by,
#vgmodify -r -e
