DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

I have 10 LUNS allocated from a Clarion array. I can see the legacy paths (using ioscan -m dsf )on 8 of the LUNS but not the other two. Why is that?
The dsf device files on the 2 odd LUNS seem to be working alright and scsimgr reports the correct number of paths.
Should I be concerned?

Sorry, the box is a ia64 hp server rx6600.
The OS is 11i-OE-Ent B.11.31.0803 with QPack bundle March 2009.

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

Hi,

one question are you using a powerpath ??

if yes maybe some luns ( disk exported to server ) are managed by the powerpath.

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

rerun insf -e or inscan -fnk to refresh the kernel.

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

We aren't using PowerPath. It isn't installed on the host.
The array was switched over to failover mode ALUA and this shows correctly in
scsimgr get_info
on all paths.

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

Michael,

I've done that several times.

ioscan -fnNC disk and insf -eC disk makes no difference.

I even rebooted.

PS: did you try to check the zonning ?? if all paths are available ??

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

All paths are available (using the persistent paths). I have created a filesystem from 4 of the LUNS including the two that show this behaviour. It seems to perform reasonably well. (Better than local disks in any case)

I am assured that all LUNS are from the same RAID group and therefore have the same SAN configuration. However I don't have visibility of the SAN config.

Re: DSF oddity with EMC Clarion

hi,

if teh server is not in the production now,

test what will you get after this switch on scsimgr

inquiry

Requests information on parameters of the target and a component LUN.

lun_map

Displays information about LUN paths of a LUN.

lun_reset

Resets a LUN

mikap

PS : if you see all paths on legacy devices maybe some option is set in scsimgr
