Re: Deferred swap reservation failure

Hi,

Can you provide me the output of:
# swapinfo -tam

Re: Deferred swap reservation failure

Could it be that pid's 15409 and 17184 were pids of tries of running swapon on a file on this filesystem?
In that case they failed because there isn't enough space on this filesystem.
Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.

Re: Deferred swap reservation failure

I had to reboot the machine and the information is not available , but i remember that the swap space was used only at 15%(at this moment the machine seems to work properly).
Do you have any suspicions about this behavior?
Is there something i must investigate or do in order to be prepared if this happens again?

Thanks

Re: Deferred swap reservation failure

Hi,

I like to know if you are using swap space on a file system: man page swanon:

Paging through a file system, while slower, provides a more efficient
use of the space on the device. Space that is not being used for
paging in this case can be used by the file system. Paging across a
network to a remote machine is always file system paging.

I think your problem is that the filesystem was full. You can prevent it by adjusting the swap prios. and give the filesystem swap a lower prio ( higher number). it is done in the /etc/fstab and requiers an other reboot..
