Deleting LVM with EVA vdisk accidentally got delete first.

HI,

I was planing of deleting a logical and Volume group but the physical disk that was on our EVA 4400 was deleted first.   Now when we run an lvremove or vgremove it wont continue for it is still looking for the physical disk.  Is there a way to delete those lv and vg even the EVA vdisk is already deleted?  if yes,  would appreciate any instructions.

Thank you

Kurt Karl

Just run a 'vgexport' of that particular VG.

# vgexport <vgname>

will remove the VG and all associated LVs.  Also remember to remove the entry for those LVs from /etc/fstab.

Re: Deleting LVM with EVA vdisk accidentally got delete first.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Tried running the command vgexport vgname and said that the VG is still active.  See message below.  I did made sure that database space using this vg is already dropped and no one using this vg anymore.

vgexport: Volume group "testdbs" is still active.

vgexport: Couldn't export volume group "testdbs".

Again any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Will it let you deactivate the VG?

# vgchange -a n testdbs
