Device file for lan card

Hi admins

I have rp74xx server with 4 network card with OS 11i.One card is 100MBPS and 3 card are GBPS card.My system is working fine.I am able to see the device file of 100 MBPS card i.e lan0(/dev/lan0) but for 3*1GBPS card i am not able to locate the device file.

3*1GBPS card is configure and working fine and lanscan is showing output as lan1,lan2,lan3.

Thanks in advance

Re: Device file for lan card

Hi,

You do not necessarily see all the device files as 11.0 onwards use dlpi to access all the interfaces. So, you will see a link (or from /dev/lan to /dev/dlpi or /dev/lan created with the same major and minor number of /dev/dlpi.

It's normal.

Re: Device file for lan card

Hi Sir

Thank for your input.

It mean that dlpi drivers is used to access the all interface.so if the file /dev/lan0 of my 100MBPS card get deleted, card should work fine ?

Re: Device file for lan card

Hi,

Yes. It should work theoritically. However, drivers for some lan card types still support old LLA so they create device files so even after removing the device files, they may get created later.
