Unless you're also re-zoning to another WWN on the storage array, moving HBA connections around the switch should not affect the hardware path of the luns. It should be safe to deactivate the volume groups, move the cable, and re-activate.

Thanks for your input bu I have done a FC Port Change before on an HP server and they do change hardware paths since the McData Port Fabric address changes from port to port.
