Re: HP Auto path VA and lvm

Hi Sunil,

We do not have VA storage but XP storage with 2 links to the disks. We always add the alternate path in the volume group using the vgextend command. If you issue a vgdisplay -v you will see:

--- Physical volumes ---
PV Name /dev/dsk/c6t4d2
PV Name /dev/dsk/c7t12d2 Alternate Link
PV Status available
Total PE 3471
Free PE 143
Autoswitch On

At the bottum. We do not use autopath software but i think it might be the same.

Re: HP Auto path VA and lvm

Sunil,

IF you do have two HBAs/FCs, two paths, to the disks and some intelligent software to see the alternate path... You normally dont have to define it in the VG config...Im not sure how your particular package deals with it though using AutoPath.

However, with that said, I do add the alt path so that it is known and can be seen.

I run EMC PowerPath on my boxes with EMC frames...

Even though Powerpath can see the alt path with out PVlinks defined, I include it in the vg config, just so I can document it with scripts I keep of my LVM configuration.

I always err on the side of caution when dealing with HP config or for matters of restoral or Disaster recovery.
Unix, the other white meat.
