HP-UX 11.11 vgchange hang when try to import filesystem from 11.31

Hi All,

When I try to import and activate vg from 11.31 into the 11.11 and the system will try to resync the mirror copy of the filesystem. What I know is 11.31 got a new format in MWC. Any patch release to solve this problem for 11.11??

Thanks.

Bonjour Teo,

Wich version of LVM do you use ? To be able to switch a VG between 11.11 and 11.31 you must stay at the lower release 1.

Now, may be you should install the patch PHKL_38983 on the 11.31 box before switching the VG to the 11.11 system. See this thread http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1274636

Also, did you did a search at http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/search.do?BC=main|&pageOsid=hpux for OS 11.11 with LVM as keyword ?

Re: HP-UX 11.11 vgchange hang when try to import filesystem from 11.31

hi,

yes the MWC as in LVM for 11iv3 has a different mirror cache that is much larger in size.

THIS IS AN EXCEPT FROM THE 11iv3 NEW LVM FEATURES FOR LVM2.0 and LVM2.1

when u export a VG from 11iv2 to 11iv3, MWC changes but when u again want to import that VG from 11iv3 to 11iv2, the MWC is not recognised by the 11iv2 LVM and so a full resync of the mirror extents of the LV takes place.( assume that is happening in ur case though u r trying to import this to 11.11 and i am talking about 11.23). This is avoided by importing the VG followed by disabling the MWC to NOMWC of the LVs and then resynced then the full Resync is avoided.

to enable the 11iv2 to recognise the MWC of an 11iv3 LVM there needs to be patch PHKL_36244 and recovery with MWC can be performed.

NOTE:what i have written above is for 11.23 11iv2 correlating to LVM in 11.31.
