How to replace a hot-swap mirrored boot disk - HPUX 11.00

Hi,

Server: HPUX 11.00 Mirror/UX MC/SG
L2000/rp5450 hot-swap mirrored boot disks

The primary system boot disk has r/w errors so we are going to replace it.
What steps should I take to do this?

10 points to any good answer.
Thank you.
Gino

Hi

You have two possible ways:

1. To get the disk off, replace it with a good one and run vgsync. I personally don't like it, I don't know why, may because it did not work once.

2. To run lvreduce for all logical volumes of vg00 and vgreduce after that in order to exclude the bad disk from the vg. After that to replace the bad disk and to build mirroring. You can use the attached script.

Gino,

There is a complete cookbook on the web.

page 20 in your case.

It is strongly recommended to use the "pvchange -a n /dev/..." command, like mentioned in the document above.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
