JFS compatibility between 11.11 and 11.23

Hi,

Is JFS3.3 on HP-UX11.11 compatible to JFS3.5 on HP-UX11.23?

I want to take data backup to 11.11 from 11.23.
(1) write data to disc on 11.23
(2) disconnect data disc from 11.23
(3) connect data disc to 11.11
(4) take data backup from disc on 11.11

Is it supported with LVM or VxVM?
Of course, disc and filesystem layout are supported version.

regards,
cobra

Hi,

Are you using LVM or Veritas Volume manager. when you say connect disk and disconnect disk what exactly are you doing.I would like a bit more information to understand and reply to your question.
With regard to backup and restore why are you not using any means of backup and restore technique ?

Thanks

Re: JFS compatibility between 11.11 and 11.23

Hi,

I want to know that after moving the using disc on 11.23/Itanium to 11.11/PA-RISC, its filesystem can be used on 11.11/PA-RISC.
So disconnect/connect mean to disconnect/connect scsi or fiber cable physically.

And I want to know it is supported or not supported.

I think it is depend only JFS disk layout version, it is independ H/W, OS and JFS version.

thanks

thanks,

Yes this should work fine. As long as you select a layout version that bouth support. I would suggest layout version 4. (Belive JFA3.5 is the only one supporting layout version 5.)
It should work with both VxFM and LVM.
As you only want to move data this way there should be no OS architecture (IA/PA) issues.

To make jfs version 4 filesystem on 11.23:

mkfs -F vxfs -o largefiles -o version=4 /dev/vgXX/rlvolXX

Then on the backup server, you should be able to vgimport.
