Re: Lost current lvmtab and I have old one -please it's Urgent
You cannot, unless you use vgexport / vgimport.
Consider to move lvmtab file away and use vgscan instead. Do this in preview mode first.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Lost current lvmtab and I have old one -please it's Urgent
try to remove (again) the lvmtab and execute the command:
- for 11iv1, 11iv2 and 11iv3 with legacy devices
# vgscan
- for 11iv3 with agile devices
# vgscan -N

Re: Lost current lvmtab and I have old one -please it's Urgent
After copying lvmtab file from old backup file, the current vgdisplay in this system does NOT list all the VGs. (One "vgn1" is NOT appearing and five VGs are attached to the other system). However the mount point associated with vgn1 is still appearing and the files are accessible. (System is not yet re-booted).
Attached are the outputs of "vgscan -p -v", "df" and "vgdisplay".
There are some VGs (vg_db, vg_redo, vg_ora_db, vg_ora_as,vg_asdb) are presently attached to the other system in the cluster.
Looks like we need to add only vgn1 to the existing.
If I run vgscan and create new lvmtab file,
1. will the new lvmtab file contain the VGs currently assigned to other system?
2. will the new lvmtab file contain all the VGs currently listed in the "df" output in the attachment (including vgn1)?
Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Lost current lvmtab and I have old one -please it's Urgent
I attached the output of vgscan in the previous reply could you check it and let me know if it is suitable in our case to use vgscan , especially for those VGs currently attached to the other system on the cluster and need also to be configured on the new lvmtab file for service guard HP-UX option.

Re: Lost current lvmtab and I have old one -please it's Urgent
Your problem volume group is vgn1, if I read your response above correctly.
Is vgn1 a running volume group on another node in your cluster?
If it IS running on other node, then just run vgscan command to rebuild lvmtab. Make sure you moved the old lvmtab file out of the way. (vgscan -a)
Then do your vgexport command where vgn1 is running and make your mapfile and use it to vgimport the volume group back into the server where you need it.
If vgn1 is NOT running on other node, then I would ask do you know what disk were associated to that volume group? There may still be a way to fix this...
Rgrds,
Rita
