Move data using lvextend

Hi,

We are moving our data from a Hitachi to an IBM Shark. I plan on using the lvextend -m to mirror the lv. They will stay mirrored for around a week. Then just before we move the server to a new building, we will break the mirror and remove the Hitachi Luns. Now if there is a sync going on when I break the mirror, is there a chance of data loss? or when I "lvextend -m 0" any synch's will finish up first and then remove complete the command?

Re: Move data using lvextend

Actually - to break the mirror, you will do a lvreduce -m 0

The lvreduce will take care of the sync - no data loss.

Re: Move data using lvextend

Sally,

There will be no data loss when you break the mirror.

An obvious suggestion: when you lvreduce the mirror, be sure to specify which disks you want to reduce. If you don't specify, at least check after the command to ensure the right ones were removed!

Sally,

'lvreduce' will wait for the sync to complete before breaking the mirror.

Thanks everyone. That's what I figured, but just wanted to verify.
