Re: Moving /opt, /tmp, /usr to / (root)

Bob,

In addition to all the aforementioned reasons, I have one that I would like to add. That of trying to run an fsck on one large partition. At least with smaller partitions, fsck runs relatively fast. With way large partitions, it just crawls.

We had a old 30GB raid array (I know, small by today's standards) that used to crash frequently (lousy UPS). It would take up to 4 hours to fsck the whole thing. Thus while the OS was running fine, nobody could get to their data, because it was all on the raid array. Just think what it would be like trying to recover a root filesystem on a 30GB drive!

Just adding my 2cts. worth.

Thanks to all for your input. I will take all under advisement.
