New on VxVM

Hi all,

I have two new systems in which there are installed VxVM. Although I am pretty sure that VxVM is not being used, I want to confirm it. How can I be sure that VxVM is not being used in a system?

Hi,

# vxdisk list
above will display the disks which are under vxvm control.

# bdf
or
# cat /etc/fstab

look at the device files for your filesystems.

/dev/vx/rdsk/rootdg/vol01 > vxvm
/dev/vg00/lvol4 > lvm

some backgroud on VxVM: VxVM 3.5 is included on the HP-UX 11.i v1 core media. VxVM 4.1 is included on HP-UX 11i v2 core media. They are called Base-VXVM product within OE.

If veritas isn't running, a 'vxdisk list' should come back with an error about not being able to communicate the server or something like that. Basically it won't work.
You could also run 'vxdctl license' to find out how many of the licensed VxVM features are available.

The 'bdf' output would show you something like this if you run vxfs filesystems:

#bdf
Filesystem kbytes used avail %used Mounted on
/dev/vx/dsk/rootdg/rootvol
3145728 228416 2895552 7% /


A ps output would also show veritas processes:

#ps -ef | grep vx
