Odd or Even Striping
One query, I would like to make a volume in HP-UX for database. But i am confused in striping stuff now. Please help in below queries:
1) is ODD striping (3-way) is good or Even Striping (4-way)?
2) What is the difference mainly between these two. Which provide better I/O performance?
Thanks
Vishu

Re: Odd or Even Striping
Do you have any kind of disk array or just plain disks?
Do you want to mirror?
If yes, what is your OS version?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Odd or Even Striping
Model is rp4440 and OS version is 11.11. I have XP array attached.
Well, if asked in general terms, which is the best striping between them. should we go for 3-way striped or 4-way normally and why?

Re: Odd or Even Striping
The XP can do likely much better striping than you can force it from the server side.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Odd or Even Striping
However, in most cases your poor little server itself will be the bottleneck, regardless what you do.
In simple words - if you write something to the XP, the array will cache the data and say "OK, done" before writing a single bit. All in cache.
As said, discuss this with your HP representative.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
