Replace disks in PVG
HP-UX 11iv1.
Have a volume group with disks organized in two PVG's, and logical volumes are mirrored between the two PVG's.
We want to replace some disks in one of the PVG's. How to do it ?
Regards,
Tommy

Re: Replace disks in PVG
If you are using the same disk file ( hardware path) no need to do anything,
else just put entry of new device file under the group by editing /etc/lvmpvg.
and then follow the procedure.
As you are REPLACING the disk , nothing to do with PVG and lvmPVG

Re: Replace disks in PVG
/etc/lvmpvg is a ascii file where you create two groups and say , this disks belong to different group ( normally different controllers, pvg strict policy is used to give redundancy in case of a contrleer failure).
As you are replacing the existing disk, ( idealy you have the same dsf cxtxdx), that dsf will be already there in lvmpvg.
If you are adding a new disk, just add that dsf under the grup by editing lvmpvg.

Re: Replace disks in PVG
mirror belongs to particular PVG where disk need to replace and mirror it again ,
Need to check or edit /etc/lvmpvg, only if the hardware paths differs from the Old bad disk HW path.

Re: Replace disks in PVG
It is not clear as to why do you want to replace the disk.
If in case you are replacing then make sure you replace the disk with the same size or bigger disk.
There is a specific guide to replace a disk under LVM control.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSeriesId=3367813&targetPage=http%3A%2F%2Fbizsupport2.austin.hp.com%2Fbc%2Fdocs%2Fsupport%2FSupportManual%2Fc01911837%2Fc01911837.pdf
You may follow the flowchart at page no. 29. I think it will help you.

Re: Replace disks in PVG
You can replace the disks you want with "pvmove" and then replace the old dsf files by the new ones in file "/etc/lvmpvg".
