Replacing the Mirror Disk in LVM

Hello Flocks,

I, have a old server HP UX 11.23 installed in the System. The disk is mirrored and lvm is configured between two disk

Disk 1 : /dev/vg00/c2t0d0 (Boot Disk)

Disk2: /dev/vg00/c2t1d0 (boot Disk)

From Last few days there was a stale present on few volume. When I execute the command lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol1 the output show the stale on second disk  i.e c2t1d0. So, I followed the hp Guide "When Good Disk Goes Bad" and replaced the second drive and tried to sync the volume with lvsync command. But the sync was failed on few drive again, Recently when i ram lvdisplay command the stale is appering on the 1st drive also. Where as it was not there before. So my dailema is if i want to want to replace the root disk. Wont that effect the system booting process even before i know that the volume on new disk is no sync.

Re: Replacing the Mirror Disk in LVM

If there are stales on both disks, your only choice is to restore your ignite backup onto new disks.

Hope this helps!

Re: Replacing the Mirror Disk in LVM

So you have 1 disk without stale extends?

Stale extends always point to bad spots on the disk. In case of such hardware issue you should get at least an email from the diagnostics to root. Refer again to when_good_disks_go_bad and check the disk (dd). Maybe you need to replace the disk again ...

Hope this helps!
