Restructuring a filesystem

I was wondering I have to reorganize a filesystem with alternate links, which involves removing it and it's logical volumes and restructuring the way the LUN's are allocated. Is there any easy way of doing this? I do have Online JFS, but I don't know the commands to restructure.

Re: Restructuring a filesystem

Could you give more details about what you want to do? You don't organize filesystems based on links, so I assume you're talking about a Volume Group.

If that's the case, you simply need to vgexport it. Then, once it's hooked back up through the new HW paths, vgimport it it. Finally, if you are adding alternate links that weren't there before, you can vgextend the new paths in and the system will recognize taht they are alternate links automatically.

Re: Restructuring a filesystem

If you want to add an alternate link to a physical volume that is part of a volume group try with:

vgextend /dev/VGname /dev/dsk/cNtNdN,

where:
VGname - the name of the volume group
cNtNdN - alternate link device file name.
