Top and other procceses some times hang.with HPUX 11.31

Chiming in a little late here..

A load average of 26 ??? Geez....

Before you start changing kernel parameters stop and take a look at what is running.

1000 processes on a vPar with 6 or 8 procs is no big deal. The same with only 1 proc is a big deal.

Start looking at what is currently running and the top, if any, cpu hogs. Identify them first and see what you can do with them.

From the only info attached I see a single processor system with a number of java processes oracle listener pegging out the CPU. Not sure how we derived that a kernel change to vxinodes and inode table flushing was the culprit ?? ( maybe I missed it somewhere ? )


Post or review some sar info for IO but I suspect your java processes are dorked up. If they typically run this way then you DO NOT have enough horsepower.


The system is pausing because the run queue is so high the processes are not getting any CPU time.
