Hi,

Have you run 'ioscan -fnC disk' before 'insf -e'?

Shalom soundappan,

insf -C disk is the only way to recognize disk where the WWN name has been set to the fibre channel interface of the server.

For full use of the disk, you will probably need to restart.

Hi soundappan,

What i can see from what you write it seems the disk are configured on the XP in the wrong zone. Maybe a windows or a AIX zone.
Can you check this.

Re: Unable to see device files for newly created LUN's from XP

Hi Soundappan,

As said earlier please do check the Host mode for which these Host group is created in XP side.

Since If you present the Luns for wrong Host Group then you may face this problem

Also Hp is having a Max dvice file limit. It cannot switch to more no of Devices files for a single Physical device.

But as per your configuration what I could understand is You have 80 Physical Luns presented thro 8 HBA's

Keep in mind to avoid the maximum no of device files getting created for a single Physical device you can Present these Luns to Single pair of HBA.On which one will act as a redundant so total no of device is 160.

Also there is some best practices available for LUN allocation to HP host.

Like in a 2GB fiber Environment you can present 1TB of disks thro One path for Best I/o Performance again it depends on the Emulation what you use.

So please do verify the way your LUNS are allocated from the XP.

Re: Unable to see device files for newly created LUN's from XP

Hi Mark,

Devices are configured to correct Zone.
I am able to see the devices on HP-UX

Hi Arun,
1) Can i know what is the Max device file limit?? Any document/links??
2)I have total 8 HBA's and Each HBA can see 80 LUNS each.So the total is 640 Luns
3)Anyother possible options??

Re: Unable to see device files for newly created LUN's from XP

LOL reply to my 255 channel post if this was your problem and complain to hp to fix it. The more who complain the sooner they will fix it.

do a dmesg and see if it mentions channels above 255. This will confirm your issue.

or do
ioscan -f > ioscan.out
grep ext_bus ioscan.out | sort -n +1 | more

Look at the last number to the left at the end of the last page of output. That will show you ran out of channels or not.

Re: Unable to see device files for newly created LUN's from XP

Each HBA can have up to 1024 LUNS presented to it from an XP environment.

Normally, after your XP Admin presents LUNS to your HP-UX server you do:

ioscan
insf -e
xpinfo -ui

Check with "xpinfo -i" output on your server with your XP Admins CU:LDEV list of assigned LUNS to that server.

There should be no reason why your newly created LUNS's cXtYdZ devices will not be seen.
