VxVM not able to detect new LUN
OS - HP-UX B.11.23 U ia64
VxVM version 5.0
Problem description-
Added a new 70GB LUN from EMC CX-380 to the host.
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c19t5d6
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c19t5d6:
vendor: DGC
product id: CX3-80WDR5
type: direct access
size: 70709760 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512
The new LUN is detected by OS, but VxVM is not able to detect it. i.e the LUN does not show in "vxdisk list" output.
Steps done so far -
1- ioscan -fnC disk
2- vxdctl enable / vxdisk scandisks
3- vxdisksetup -if c19t5d6
VxVM vxdisksetup ERROR V-5-2-43 c19t5d6: Invalid disk device for vxdisksetup
Please suggest any solution except "reboot"
Thanks

Resolution: A fix for the issue is expected to be available when the 5.0 MP1RP2 patch is released

Thus, install latest HP-UX 11.23 vxvm 5.0 patchset. (which can be found via the itrc patch database link (find HP-UX patches in a patch set ).. and yes the system will reboot as part of the patch(set) installation ...)

Re: VxVM not able to detect new LUN
though I only use VxVM under Solaris where the disk setup differs slightly (e.g. devfsadm -c disk, labeling via format) the steps you had performed under HP-UX look ok to me.
After the vxdctl enable (step 2)
is for instance a
# vxdisk -o alldgs list
listing the new disk (unassociated to any DG and marked "error" unless the vxdisksetup hasn't taken effect yet)?
As you can query the diskinfo its device file should also be in place.
Otherwise I would have suggested to run an inssf.
