Re: Why can I not rebuild the mirror disk?

It is possible that your new disk has a bad spot on it that won't allow lvol2 to sync.

What steps are you taking?

Re: Why can I not rebuild the mirror disk?

Or it's possible that lvol2 has a stale extent on the disk you are trying to sync "from".
What does
lvdisplay -v /dev/vg_name/lvol2
return?
Any stale extents?

Re: Why can I not rebuild the mirror disk?

Have you done a lvlnboot -R after you have unmirrored the root-disk?

Re: Why can I not rebuild the mirror disk?

Check to see if the source lvol2 has a bad block by running a dd. If you get an I/O error you have found the problem.

Then check the same for the target.

What is the exact error message you get?

Re: Why can I not rebuild the mirror disk?

perhaps you may need to check whether your PE in lvol1 are contigously mirrored.
do a
# lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol

and compare the PE on both disk. they must be identically mapped. they same must be true for the next lvols. otherwise there could be a phyisical deffect on your mirror disk.
