doc for 4 disk vg00

Hey:

Whose got a good doc listing out the procedure for mirroring vg00 when vg00 has 4 disks?

I'm trying to find out if strict allocation is used everywhere.

Re: doc for 4 disk vg00

How about lvmpvg? You can mirror the first 3 LVOLs to a specific boot disk and others to any disk in pvg.

Hope this helps!

Shalom,

/stand and / need to be on the boot disk. Beyond that you can use lvchange to change strict allocation if need be to re-arrange the deck prior to the mirror.

What does "..arrange the deck prior to the mirror.." mean?

Besides the strict allocation policy on the two disks, pvchange -B only needs to used on the first disk that includes /, stand and swap. Right? While the second disk woudln't use -B.

And the same goes for the bootlif only appearing on the first disk, used in the setboot commands, lvlnboot, etc.

In summary, as long as none of the o/s lvols, especially / and stand and swap are not on the 2nd disk, then this is a straight mirroring.

You know I can't find the PA-Risc cookbooks on the itrc anymore. Does anyone have a copy?

Re: doc for 4 disk vg00

Let's say you have 2 disks in vg00 without mirror. The first will be bootable and contain at least lvol1,2 and 3, the other disk has the remaining lvols. So only the first needs to have a boot area, the second is just like a data disk.
Same for the mirror.

Hope this helps!

Re: doc for 4 disk vg00

Depends on the HW platform.

For itanium

For PARISC at the end of this document, which I recommend you read before mirroring as it describes what needs to be done to recover given your starting point.
