/etc/lvmconf

What is the official party line about moving the volume group conf files to a separate filesystem with a link in /etc to that directory. I get conflicting reports.

Thanks

Bob,

That should work.

Re: /etc/lvmconf

Hi Bob:

I sould *leave* the most recent copies of files in the '/etc/lvmconf' directory in the '/etc' filesystem.

You could move the "*.old" copies if you wish.

In this fashion, should you need to use them when booted in single-user mode (where only the root filesystem is mounted) then you have availability to them.

Regards!

Re: /etc/lvmconf

Spex: So officially there are no pitfalls associated with moving the /etc/lvmconf files to a separate filesystem and creating a symbolic link in /etc to this filesystem? I've been told that the itrc doesn't recommend this.

Re: /etc/lvmconf

I would not try to move the files. They are needed to do LVM operations even in maintenance mode, while no other filesystems are available. Where is your need to do this?

I would strongly recommend to leave the files untouched.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: /etc/lvmconf

Shalom Bob,

You can always regenerate it if its lost.

I don't think keeping more than the current and one copy is necessary.

Re: /etc/lvmconf

I needed to reopen this thread to assign points. Again, my problem is that I have a very small root filesystem (150mb) and I'm looking for anyway to keep it from filling up. The /etc/lvmconf directory was my last resort. Thanks for all your help. I'll need to keep on top of this.
