LVM Mirror/ux does not support raid 1+0 mirror and striping at the same time.
I've always found straight raid 1 mirroring is good enough.

yes, vgextend to add in a spare disk, then pvmove the disk you want to pull to the spare disk you just added, then vgreduce the disk you want to pull, then its free and you can physicall pull it.

with your extent-based stiped lvol you can still use pvmove to free up a disk so you can remove it without taking it offline as long as you have a spare disk. We use it all the time.

thank for your input.
also we don't have an extent base striped volume, just a plain raid 0 over stiped over 4 disks at 32k stripe sizes.
Wy next build will be without LVM - yes to VxVM. DEC days will be back :o)
