lvm problem increasing logical volume

I am having a problem extending a file system, there is plenty of space on the disk (free PE is 1670 and each PE is 8mb)

the error i am getting is:

# lvextend -L 360 /dev/vg00/lvol4
lvextend:Not enough free physical extents available
logical volume could not be extended
failure possibly caused by contiguos alloaction policy
failure possibly caused by strict allocation policy

Please help,
many thanks

Re: lvm problem increasing logical volume

It is probably due to the use of contigous and strict volume policies for the logical volume. If you using contigous and strict you have little chance of extending because of the policy. You could change the policy (depending on the volume) or create an igbite tape and recontruct your /dev/vg00 group to have a larger size for this LV. Why you have /dev/vg00/lvol4 as contigous and strict could be your problem depending on your mount point.

Thanks Michael,

I have checked some other comments also from the forums and apparently lvchange -c /dev/vg00/lvol4 will also help however I can't do this in my organisation without change approval.
