lvm/vxvm
Hi,
We have an itanium servers rx4640 running HP-UX 11.23 and rx6600 running 11.31. These servers have veritas to manage data disks(vxvm with vxfs). Now we have to rebuild 2 more servers that will replace these 2 servers.
The new servers are not going to use veritas. We are going to restore the data file systems to lvm/vxfs on the new servers. Will it be a problem..? will the restore work fine in the new servers? Please advice.
Appreciate your help. Thanks

Re: lvm/vxvm
Without more details it is difficult to answer.
- What backup software are you going to use to restore the data filesystems? A regular file-based backup should not care about the difference of LVM vs. VxVM when restoring the filesystem contents. For more specialized backup solutions it might be different.
- Before the introduction of LVM 2.x in HP-UX 11.31, VxVM was needed for huge volume groups (larger than 16 TB). Even though the maximum size of a LVM 2.x LV is at 256 TB or more, VxVM might still be preferred as a well-known and proven way to manage huge amounts of data. How much data are you going to restore?

Re: lvm/vxvm
Hi mk,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated, going to restore 50g to 2 tb file systems. The data file systems are backed up and the restoration will be performed by netbackup server. Normal file backup. No special backups/ restore needed.
Thanks Again
