lvmconf file size is too big after ignite recovery

Hi,

I have taken ignite backup in ignite server and restored in new hardware.

After recovery, when i create any new VG or import any existing VG, the size of the /etc/lvmcong/.conf is too big(almost each vg conf file size is 16MB). This making root file system full .

The sizes of .conf files in the server where from the ignite backup was taken comparitively very small.

regards,
Madhu

Re: lvmconf file size is too big after ignite recovery

This should only be the case if the vgs are set up -max_lv 255 -peperpv 65535 -max_pv 255 while having a low pe size.

(At a customer site we had that config for some time, and also found to have certain 'issues' of / filling up)

You should look into the ignite client_config files, the vg parameters there would be highly interesting.

Emergency workaround:
extra LV for /etc/lvmconf (for some reason I'll never grasp, this really works fine ;)
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Hi Deepak,

You can move the /etc/lvmconf/ *.conf.old files , to free up some space.

Cheers,

Hi,

It appears that some VG parameters are set to very high values as posted above. Could you post "vgdisplay -v /dev/vgXX" output for any such VG.

Key Parameters to be noticed.
1) PE_SIZE
2) MAX_PE_PER_PV
3) MAX_PV_PER_VG

You could also have a corrupted ioconfig file. If this iGnite is building new server and you could pvcreate the disks, I would suggest:
1. Disconnect your hbas
2. Remove all ref in /dev/dsk & /dev/rdsk except vg00 and CDs
3. ioscan -fn
4. insf -e
5. Recreate your VGs
