I am using what I believe is a fairly standard technique in that I lvsplit each of the lvols in the root volume group vg00 then apply changes.
After applying the patch bundle I have tested the server with the database and application both working fine.
After thorough testing I decide to merge the split volumes with the lvmerge command.
As it is the root volume group I am assuming that it is advisable to work in single-user mode, Is it really ?
What are the steps involved in merging the split volumes and do i require a server downtime or a reboot for the lvols to be merged?
Please guide me ..
Thanking you in anticipation ...

lvmerge dest source
runlevel 3 is ok unless you're on MC/SG or something with shared vg or file systems.

Re: lvmerge to be done after lvsplit on the root volume group vg00
Do i need a reboot?
Can I do lvmerge with database and sap running on my system online?
Lastly, i have two lvols for the root folesystem e.g lvol3 and lvol3b under vg00. lvol3 is the primary and lvol3b is the split lvol before the patch bundle, then which one is to consider as source and which one as destination?
Thanx again
