lvmtab & lvmtab_p - cannot remove VG's as I get 'not a character device' message

Hi

I have some VG definitions in lvmtab_p but not in lvmtab.  I am trying to get rid of them, but they don't exist in /dev.  Ans when I do attempt to vgremove, I get:

vgremove: "/dev/vgX02/group": not a character device.
vgremove: Couldn't remove volume group "/dev/vgX02".

Any idea what might be causing this, as we need to completely remove any suggestion of vgX01 - vgx13 from the server.

Regards

Tariq

These are LVM 2.x VGs.

Consider to use vgexport.

Hope this helps!

Hi Torsten

No vg*** commands are working.

Did you delete the group file before?
Is it still there?
What is the error message for vgexport?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
