rp5470 mirrored boot disk failure

I have a rp5470 with (2) 36GB mirrored disks for booting. One of them is chattering lots of errors and needs to be replaced. It's been a while since I've done any work with 11.11 mirrordisk, and I'm not sure if the disk can be removed while the system is up.

Anyone have any advice on getting the disk replaced and re-mirrored?

Re: rp5470 mirrored boot disk failure

If the two disks are internal to the system, then its very likely you can perform the disk replacement operation while the system is online.  There are number of dependencies though that will determine the exact steps you need to take.  The following is probably the best document for you to reference:

Re: rp5470 mirrored boot disk failure

Thanks for the reply, Bob. I just recently came across this same doc, as well as some other threads that are somewhat related. I believe the rp5470 is hot-swappable (at least the manual says it is).

A page that has the strategy I'm going to follow, which is based off that doc, is http://www.knowledgeroot.com/hp-ux/lvm/replacing-a-vg00-diskdrive-with-lvm-mirror/

I was not aware that "pvchange -a N" existed, which is cool.

Dit that instruction work ok?

I assumed I had to vgreduce the PV first.

Re: rp5470 mirrored boot disk failure

No need to reduce anything, since "pvchange -a n ..." is available.

Hope this helps!
