Re: unable to extend lv

You can not extend /dev/vg00/lvol3 since it is root and contiguous. If you want to increase the size the only way to take the ignite backup and install using it. At the time of install modify the filesystem sizes.

lvol1, lvol2 and lvol3 must be contiguous hence either you have to follow the above option or re-install the OS with the new filesystem sizes.

Re: unable to extend lv

What Mridhul said above is correct. You cannot extend the root LV as it is, even though you have 30GB free space left on vg00. You have to use ignite for that.

lvdisplay /dev/vg00/lvol3
will show
Allocation strict/contiguous

The immediate thing you need to do is clean the root file system and get some free space because you have already used up the 1GB totally.

Re: unable to extend lv

Dear Mukesh

u can't increarse this logical volume because it is root
/dev/vg00/lvol3 1048576 1048576 0 100% /
if u want u have to use ignite tool

immediattely u have to decrease the file system size

thanks and regards

dear Mukesh

try to find which files consuming more space
then take an action

Re: unable to extend lv

Before taking drastic action such as an ignite backup and restore, check why the / filesystem has filled. The most common reason is that someone has mistyped a tape device name and created a large text file in /dev.

Also, check to see if any applications are writing to / that would be better writing to a dedicated filesystem.

Re: unable to extend lv

If you have OnlineJFS and MirrorDisk/UX you can extend it without any backups/restores.
