veritas licence and onlinejfs

OS version : HP UX 11 i v3.

OS : BOE

After Installation, I found veritas licence was not found.

I am using native LVM .

Will there be any problem in extending or reducing LV ,if Veritas Licence is not activated ?

I also found online JFS is not installed.

I understand without onlinejfs ,Filesystem can't be extended or reduced in online without onlinejfs.

Is there any relationship between veritas licence and onlinejfs ?

Re: veritas licence and onlinejfs

HP-UX BOE = Base Operating Environment

That means that there are no optional products such as Online JFS, Mirror/UX, etc

Other operating environments such as MCOE and DCOE add in many optional products at a reduced cost. Otherwise, you can purchase Online JFS (which requires a Veritas license).

Without Online JFS, you must unmount filesystems in order to expand the size. Also, without Online JFS, you cannot reduce a filesystem at all. The filesystem must be recreated once the lvol is reduced in size, and the files restored from backup.

Thanks Bill,

Can you share the product list supported in BOE and other OE ?

This may help but the picture is at a high level:

Off to right is a data sheet on OEs:

Re: veritas licence and onlinejfs

As you can see from the contents of the DC-OE, VS-OE, HA-OE, these bundles contain many products, many of which you may never use (and they are quite expensive). If all you need are the MirrorDisk/UX, OnlineJFS and Glance products, it would be quite a bit cheaper to purchase these products individually.

Re: veritas licence and onlinejfs

Hi ,

Thanks for the information.

As you aware, Currently system is running with BOE.

I need to  upgrade BOE to VS-OE  from Ignite image.

I can't use  DVD to install OS.Only option I have is to upgrade OS from Ignite Image.

Is it possible to upgrade OE from ignite image ? if possible what should I need to do ?

Regards

Madhu

I think you are saying that you don't have a DVD player.

That's OK since the VS-OE  images are available as a download from HP once you purchase the upgrade.

Re: veritas licence and onlinejfs

Thanks Bill,

# cat /var/opt/ignite/data/INDEX

cfg "HP-UX 11iv3 VSE 1303 VSP Temp" {
        description "HP-UX 11iv3 VSE 1303 VSP Temp"
        "/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/config.golden"
        "/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/hw_patches_cfg"
        "/var/opt/ignite/data/VSP/core_vsp.cfg"
        "/var/opt/ignite/data/config.local"
}

I have the above lines in INDEX file, which mean I have golden image for VS-OE.

so confirm if below points works for me to upgrade?

1. go to client efi shell

2.create a dbprofile file.

3.boot with vs-oe image

But i am not able to find update-UX ...

so how can i perform upgradation ?

Re: veritas licence and onlinejfs

The Ignite image wil erase your existing boot disk and cold-install the new copy of HP-UX. It cannot be used for upgrading. The VSE version on your Ignite server was created by some media somewhere. Once you locate it, you can use that media to run update-ux.  The path to update-ux is /usr/sbin but you'll need the media available.
