Re: vg00 has the disk named as "/dev/disk/disk8_p2"

These are the new device files for 11.31 due to the new mass storage stack.

Now you need no longer use all the alternate links in the old style like

/dev/dsk/cxtydz

but only one device file like

/dev/disk/diskx

See the relation by running

ioscan -m dsf

Hope this helps!

Re: vg00 has the disk named as "/dev/disk/disk8_p2"

hi torsten,

I have one more question.

Is this new mass storage stack only for VG00 volume groups?

In my system i can see other VG's(non VG00) just like normal with alternate paths showing.

Should i do some changes for other VG's for this new mass storage stack to take effect?

Re: vg00 has the disk named as "/dev/disk/disk8_p2"

Hi

You need to use the command

/usr/contrib/bin/vgdsf to convert the leagcy DSF's to persistent DSF for rest of the VG's

/usr/contrib/bin/vgdsf
USAGE: vgdsf {-a | -d | -c} vg_name
-a - Add persistent DSFs to the volume group
-d - Delete legacy DSFs from the volume group
-c - Convert legacy DSFs to persistent DSFs (-a and -d)
in the volume group

Thanks & Regards

Re: vg00 has the disk named as "/dev/disk/disk8_p2"

hi ramesh,

Can this be done online for all the VG's? Will this impact my system? Since this is a prod environment we cant afford to hav downtime now. Please suggest. Thanks for your time and help

Re: vg00 has the disk named as "/dev/disk/disk8_p2"

Hi

"vgdsg" is just going to update the lvmtab and VG configuration with new Persistent DSF name.

So, there should not be any issue to run "vgdsf" on production system

Again, i dont see any warnings for the same on docs.

So, you could go ahead and migrate.

Thanks & Regards

Ramesh
