vgexport lvm 2.x vgimport lvm 1.0 possible?

We tried to mount a cloned volume group. The original system is running 11.31 with lvm 2.x. Target system is running 11.23 lvm 1.0 with VSE. Is there any chance to get the vgimport working?

Once you have updated the vg to 2.X, you can't get it back to 1.0

Re: vgexport lvm 2.x vgimport lvm 1.0 possible?

Yes, 11.31 has LVM 2.x, but it can create both 1.0 and 2.x VG formats.

No, 11.23 won't understand LVM 2.x at all.

The question is, is the _VG_ created using 1.0 or 2.x format?

On the 11.31 system, run "vgdisplay ". Check the "VG Version" field near the end of output. If it says "1.0", the import should work just fine.

If the VG has been created using the 2.x formats (using "vgcreate -V 2.0" or "vgcreate -V 2.1"), there does not seem to be any way to convert it to 1.0.

If the VG has originally been created using the 1.0 format and then migrated to 2.x, it may be possible to roll it back to 1.0, IF the VG configuration backup from before the migration is still available AND IF the VG has not been modified after the migration.

As Matti is saying, there is a way now, to revert your VG from 2.x to 1.0, using the vgversion command, so you need to be on 11.31 to be able to go back to 1.0 and also you need to have the file:

/etc/lvmconf/vgversion_vg_name/vg_name.VG final VG version.conf
