Re: wanting to migrate vg version 1 to vg version 2.

wanting to migrate vg version 1 to vg version 2.

Is it possible to mirror a vg version 1 to a vg version 2 - reason wanting to remove paritions that we have for oracle

wanting to create a vg version 2 net new lun, mirror the new lun the vg version 1. when done I would shutdown oracle

break the mirror, remove the presenation of vg version 1.  bring oracle backup. and create a net new hotbackup for oracle.

or am I full of it.   needing some help...

Re: wanting to migrate vg version 1 to vg version 2.

I believe i'm saying this wrong,  lets say i'm wanting to mknod /dev/vg01/group c 128 0x010000

wanting to create this volume and then I mirror this volume to an exsting version 1 group, then reduce and removing the vg version 1, can this be done.

Re: wanting to migrate vg version 1 to vg version 2.

Would I be using   vgversion to review if any issues with the volume group if the preview is successful I would then

run vgversion -v -V 2.01 /dev/vg01

Re: wanting to migrate vg version 1 to vg version 2.

VG mirroring not possible.

You can directly convert the VG using vgversion command assuming you are using version 3 OS.

You need to deactivate the VG  before running the vgversion.
