How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

At work, we need to obtain a replacement CD for the HP Tru64 compiler. We are running Tru64 5.1B-4.

After dialling five HP numbers, speaking to about 20 different departments, and consulting two different HP resellers, we are no closer to getting our hands on it (at any cost).

The CD is described here http://h30097.www3.hp.com/cplus/spd.html . As you can see, the only ordering information is this pithy statement: "contact your local HP office".

If anyone knows the proper contact info within HP for Alpha software, I would appreciate it. Australian or US contact points will do, provided the US contact points are internationally diallable (no 1800 numbers).

We have v6.5 installed on a system that is being decommissioned, and we intend to transfer the licence (license) across to the new server.

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Nick,

You can find the latest Tru64 C++ kit on the hp ftp site. That should get you what you need to install the software to the new server.

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/C-CXX/tru64/cxx/

The CD that you would be looking for is the Tru64 UNIX Software Product Library CD. Hopefully the download will suffice.

Thanks Duane, I've downloaded it and I'll check it out on Monday.

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Hi,

Yes that worked.
1. Downloaded the CXX651V42.tar file from the above link,
2. Expand the tar file
3. Installed it (setld -l )

That's got me across the line.

The only thing is that it's not the latest version of the compiler ...

$ cxx -V
Compaq C++ V6.5-042 for HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B (Rev. 2650)
Compiler Driver V6.5-042 (cxx) cxx Driver

... (the latest is version 7.1).

Nor does it include a way of getting the licence (license) for those who require one.

Anyway, thanks, Duane.

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Can't you do an 'lmf issue' on the server being conditioned and then add the re-generated PAK on the server you want to transfer the license to?

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Sorry typo - that should read 'server being decommissioned'.

(And I realize this doesn't address your version issue :-)

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Thanks for chiming in Mark,

Yes that's what I did on Monday, so my problem is over.

I'm just a little concerned for other people who are starting out fresh: they don't have a licence at all, they have plenty of cash, the required hardware, but nowhere to buy the licence from.

There's also a faint possibility my department might be split: same issue arises.

You don't mention whether you've tracked the part numbers down so here goes. An HP sales rep or reseller ought to be able to get you pricing for these.

QA-MTRAA-H8 CD Media for C++ Compiler
QL-MTRA*-AA Unlimited system use license
(Value of asterisk changes depending on
class of system.)
QL-MTRAM-3B Concurrent use license
(Any one user can user product at any
time.)
QL-MTRAM-2B Personal use license
(One identified user can user product)
QA-MTRA*-GZ Documentation for C++
Compiler

Re: How to get C++ compiler CD in Australia?

Yes, I have been quoting these part numbers to all and sundry.

The usual reaction after I read the part number to the various HP consultants is ... "that's a weird part number, where did you get that from?".

One of the issues is that the HP reseller we usually deal with - a good dealer in Sydney (Australia) - has found that most of his contacts within HP have been laid off.

The customer service experience has been pretty disappointing, to be quite frank. I've got the download (and an existing licence), but if not I would have been trying HP contact points in the U.S. or even New Zealand.
