JDK 1.4.2

Is it possible to install JDK in another directory instead of the default directory (which is /opt/jdk142) -

the short answer is yes you can do and no you can not do.

if the package is prepared as relocatable, you can do it.

if not, swinstall still gives you the option of changing the target destination (under actions --> target path), but you must keep in mind that, the product may not work if not installed in the suggested target directory as it may have been compiled with some dependencies to the proposed install directory, like it may reference some out of package libraries using relative paths etc.
