New HP LoadRunner content on HPLN – correlation rules for Oracle Hyperion

We recently reached a significant milestone on the HP LoadRunner and HP Performance Center community on HP Live Network (HPLN).   HPLN allows you to share content with other users, and up to now, most of the content was generated by HP.  But we are now pleased to announce the first community content contributed by a member of the community, “Correlation Rules for Hyperion”, which is, in the words of the description, “Correlation rules helping with some correlations of some Hyperion products (mostly version and before)”.


Why share correlation rules?

In LoadRunner, correlation is used when a recorded script includes a dynamic value, such as a session ID, and can’t be successfully replayed.  To resolve this, you convert the dynamic value into a variable which is assigned a value from the first relevant response, and then used in the script instead of the original hard-coded value.  Correlation rules are used to automatically identify and extract the dynamic value and replace it with a parameter throughout the script. Although LoadRunner comes with correlation rules for some technologies out of the box, and some other correlatable values are detected automatically by analyzing the flow of the recorded business process, there are occasions when users need to write their own correlation rules.  Up until now, each user was on their own, investing effort in writing correlation rules that someone else might have already developed. Now, with the introduction of HPLN, correlation rules developed by one user can be shared, reused, and improved upon by many others.


How do I download and install the correlation rules for Hyperion?

To access HPLN, you’ll need to have an HP Passport, and a valid SAID.  To learn more about HPLN, you can read the article I posted a few months ago, “Get connected with HP Live Network, your performance testing community”.

To download and import the content, you’ll first need to open VuGen, and click the ‘HPLN’ button on the toolbar.  Click on ‘Correlation Rule’ in the ‘HPLN content’, and then click the ‘Download’ button in ‘Correlation Rules for Hyperion”, as in the following screenshot:


Once it’s downloaded, you can import it into VuGen by going to Record > Recording Options…, and clicking on the Rules node under Correlations.  Click ‘Import’, and select the file Correlation_Rules_for_Hyperion-1.00.00.cor which should be in the %ProgramData%\ Hewlett-Packard\LoadRunner\hpln\cor directory.  Once the rules have been imported, they will appear in the list of correlation rules as follows:


Click OK, and you can use them to help you with correlation of your Hyperion application recordings.

Where I can see the HPLN button on the toolbar? I am not able to find it. I am using VuGen 11.50

The HPNL integration was added in LoadRunner 11.52.  You can access it via a button on the toolbar:


Alternatively, you can use the Tools menu:
