MSM460 not accessible after power on

hello i puchased a used MSM460 which was factory reset by the seller.

the unit upon powering on is displaying a strange light sequence, i tried to factory reset it again by pressing the reset button and waiting until the 4 status lights blink slowly 3 times and releasing it.

please see the link below for a video of myself attempting a factory reset for more details:

Re: MSM460 not accessible after power on

Try if you can access the AP with the default IP 192.168.1.1 (with you PC/laptop in the same subnet), alternatively connecting a console cable and check the status.
Please find the link below for mroe information as how to access the device.

Re: MSM460 not accessible after power on

Hello

Based on the LED indication it looks like the AP is booting in TFTP mode. In this mode it will not activate the HTTPS server functionality so the GUI is not accessible. As the name suggests in TFTP mode the AP will accept TFTP connection for installing a new boot image. If the AP is in this mode it either doesnt have a valid image or the reset button was pressed for too long after the 3rd slow blink. You can confirm that you are in TFTP mode if you can ping the default IP 192.168.1.1 but cannot open the webUI.

If you are indeed in TFTP mode you can install a new MSM cim.startup image. Please note that this is not the normal firmware image that can be downloaded from the public download page, the cim.startup images are not publicly available so they can be only provided by the support.

You can find on the web some instructions on how to install a cim.startup image using TFTP. For example here ,page 3 Load method2: Using TFTP

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c04514138

or here

https://www.flomain.de/2014/11/msm-tftp-mode/

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sf000005379en_us&docLocale=en_US

The only publicly available cim.startup image is the one for HPE 560 version 6.5.0.0, it is V6.5.0.0-HP560-B19493.cim.startup. (it can be found in the zip arichve)

https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/DownloadSoftware.aspx?SoftwareReleaseUId=11588&ProductNumber=J9846A&lang=&cc=&prodSeriesId=

I am not sure if it will work with MSM460, some users stated that it was working but I am not sure because I only see the AP 560 in the file name. We can provide you an image which is for MSM460, just let me know if you would like to try this.

Re: MSM460 not accessible after power on

ok, so the the AP is in TFTP mode, can it be taken out of that mode without uploading any new firmware images to it?

i do not have access to any downloads as i am an individual and not a business and do not have an emaiil with a custom domain.

support was unwilling to proide me with any help or cim.startup files for the same reason.

however if you would be willing i would still like that msm460 firmware and startup.cim files if possible.

Re: MSM460 not accessible after power on

If the startup image is still good there may be a chance the boot the AP by performing the factory reset procedure without pressing the reset button for too long. But if the image is corrupted or not available the AP will always go to TFTP mode. Please try if this can recover the AP and give us feedback!
