Re: A question about MSA2040 and D3700 connectivity

No

it's not

The D3000 enclosures support direct attach storage to ProLiant Servers with the HP Smart Array , P421, P431or the P822 Controllers. Blade 6Gb SAS connectivity is enabled using a HP Smart Array P721m and P731m Controllers, 6Gb SAS BL Switches and the D3000 enclosures. HP H221 and the H222 Host Bus Adapters are also supported with the D3600/D3700 Enclosures.

Re: A question about MSA2040 and D3700 connectivity

Do we know if support is coming for this?

D2700 is no longer listed as a product you can buy on HP's website, which tells me this is (or close to being) end of life, the last firmware update was 2014 and it doesn't support SFF 1.8tb 10k sas disks.

Will the D3700 be the option to expand the MSA 2040 eventually?

Re: A question about MSA2040 and D3700 connectivity

So a couple of things here that I've confirmed with the U.S. MSA product manager:

  1. The D2700 is being phased out as a JBOD for ProLiant servers, but not as a SFF expansion module for the MSA line. If I'm reading the MSA 2040 QuickSpec correctly, there's also an MSA 2040 disk enclosure.
  2. The reason the D3700 doesn't support the MSA 2040 isn't because it's a JBOD for ProLiant - that's also something you could do with the D2700.
  3. The D3700 uses the new ProLiant Smart Carriers which the MSA product does not. That is why it isn't supported as an expansion enclosure for the MSA 2040.

Hope that helps!

Re: A question about MSA2040 and D3700 connectivity

Thank you so much for your responce, Your helping crack the final bits of my dilemma.

I need to have 1.8tb 2.5" 10k sas disks which the D2700 does not support.

So if I'm reading your responce right, can the MSA 2040 SAS (K2R84A) connect to the MSA2040 SAN  (dual controller) as an expansion tray?

(edit) would the same apply for the cheaper MSA 1040 SAS(K2Q89A) as an expansion tray?

(edit2) I just found this

The MSA 2040 will support a maximum of 7 disk enclosures (either LFF and/or SFF). Add-on enclosures can either be

D2700 Small Form Factor (SFF) drive enclosures or MSA 2040 Large Form Factor (LFF) disk enclosures. The array can

grow incrementally from a few drives to 96 LFF or 199 SFF drives.

(edit3) Looking at the 2040 LFF disk enclosure I'm still out of luck as i cant get any fast 10k/15k disks with a decent size!

So frustrating, Do we know if they are going to certify the 1.8tb 10k disks for usage with the d2700 as that is my last hope it seems.

Again, your help is very much appreciated.

Adam.

Re: A question about MSA2040 and D3700 connectivity

ccording to the HPE Sales Builder Tool, You can in fact utilize 1.8TB harddrives for the D2700, when utilizing the D2700 along with the MSA2040. You should probably confirm this with Your preferred Value Added Reseller, but this does seem to be the case.

Strangely enough, the D2700 does not support the 1.8TB harddrive, when just configuring a D2700 to be used with a server, according to the same Sales Builder Tool, but that fits with the Quick Specs, and thus does seem to be correct, though I don't know the reason for this.

Ok - so the answer is in the MSA QuickSpec and the 1.8TB 10K SAS drives are supported.  See page 6.
