Adding new drives to MSA 1500

Chris,
Can I ask how long it took to expand the array after you added the two disks ?

I'm planning to add two disks to our MSA30 shelf but heard of extrememly long times when expanding... 4-5 days...

I dimly recall that it took about a day and a half. I'm fairly certain that the drive expansion time is heavily dependent on the size of the array and any on-going disk activity, so user experience may vary greatly.

Just a side note on access to the MSA Chris, IF you have a spare windows server or one thats not doing much like a HP proliant DL360 for example you can fiber connect it to the MSA and use the HP array utility to better manage the MSA arrays in a GUI environment.

Unless of course your a sadist and like CLi which i most certainly do not.

Thanks for the great tip, Marcus, where were you when I was struggling with this a few months ago? I'm a Cisco guy so I'm no stranger to the command line, but I hate the CLI for the HP MSA 1500. That's probably why I'm so enamored with our new EMC Centera ;)
