Ambiguous spare in MSA 2040

I have an MSA 2040 with 2 spare disks.

Under the System tab, when I hover over the disks, one is labeled as 'global spare' and one is labeled as 'dedicated spare'. On the Home tab, in the graph under Capacity, it shows the capacity of both disks as global spare capacity. There is only one pool and one group. The volume class is Linear.

I want both of the disks to function as a spare in case of any disk failing. I think they will, but the different labeling makes me a little uncertain.

How can I check what the dedicated spare is assigned to?

Re: Ambiguous spare in MSA 2040

Hi

best way is to connect with Putty and issue the command

show disks usage spares

if the output is not what you expect use the

remove spares

or

add spares

commends to fix the problem

Give a KUDO if this helps

Thanks Giladzzz.

The syntax seems to be different on the 2040 ('usage' does not exist as a parameter), but 'show disks' was good enough for what i need.
